First and foremost … we are Collectors. We focus on categories of Funko Pops! that interest us. This catalog is more for the personal use of my wife and I so we will know what each other has in our collections. So we can compare what we’re seeing sitting on a shelf in a store or in a listing on line and know (a) if it is in either collections (b) to verify by image that it is one that we don’t have and want.
We are not such avid collectors that we will pay the unreasonably high prices for a rare Pop that some speculator picked up to over-charge collectors for. We are also very careful at looking for the signs that the high value Pop! that we have found in a store at a good price isn’t a counterfeit.
Do we not purchase Pops! with the design to try and make a profit off of them. If you haven’t noticed, there is no contact information on this site. We have tried that game before and we ended up taking a loss when the Sub-Prime crash hit and the market fell out of everything. You have to remember that an item is only worth what someone will pay for it, and we won’t pay more than a reasonable price.
Shop Smart!
Just because a store or re-seller has a price on an item, doesn’t mean that you can’t find it cheaper. Take for an example the “What If” – Kate Bishop Target Exclusive. Standing in a Vintage Stock I found this particular item sitting in their glass case for around $20. I found it again on their shelf for $14. Then I found it sitting on the shelf of a Target store nearby for $12. Alway check Amazon for a trending price. Use the Funko App and see if there is a trending price.
Counterfeit Pops!
If you find a Pop! that has a high market value on it, and you find it at a very reasonable price, you need to take the time to check it and make certain it isn’t a counterfeit. There are numerous sites out there that will teach you how to spot a counterfeit. You just have to take the time to learn and verify any purchases you can before putting your money down. Ebay has been reported as one of the highest probabilities of a counterfeit. I don’t know this for certain, its what I’ve read, and I don’t purchase Pops! from Ebay.
In the Box!
If you are concerned about the value of the Pops! in your collection, you need to understand that for many collectors, the pops! are not work much if they aren’t inside their original box. Of my entire collection, I have 1 (one) pop that isn’t in a box, and it was a gift back when I was starting my original collection. If you aren’t concerned about their holding any value, and many of them don’t, then feel free to take them out of their boxes and enjoy being able to display more of them in an area.
Protective Cases
If you are concerned about them holding some value for the future, you will likely be able to recuperate more of your money if you pay a little extra to keep the standard pops! in a protective box. These boxes can run anywhere from 65 to 80 cents if you buy them on Amazon. As you look through the catalog and see the Pops! that I have posted photographs of, the standard size pops! are all in protective cases. If you see a Pop! that is not in a protective case, it is very likely that they do not make a case for that size, or it could be that the photo was taken early in the collection and wasn’t in its protective case yet.
